Acupuncture and acupressure are shown to successfully treat all kinds of conditions such as musculoskeletal issues, chronic pain, nausea, headaches, anxiety, insomnia, and depression. With acupuncture, a stimulation of the nerves is created from the acupuncture needles, which then travels to the brain and initiates blood flow to the affected area. The nerves essentially send signals through our neurohormonal pathways which then activate the body's natural ability to produce endorphins. These endorphins work with the body's opiate receptors in the brain to reduce our perception of pain and discomfort. Unlike opioid pain medications such as morphine and oxycodone, natural endorphins block the pain without leading to addiction or a dependency on a drug.
